A few weeks ago Yung Blu and I had the opportunity to attend Russell and Danny Simmons Artisan Series which was hosted by Rush Philanthropic and Bombay Sapphire. We met artist Joe Fenton who is a concept artist, illustrator and painter. His personal work is inspired by artists such as Hieronymus Bosch, Breugal, Escher, Arthur Rackham, Aubrey Beardsley and Dore. He’s also worked in London and Prague for a few years in the film industry as a designer and sculptor, working with directors like Terry Gilliam and for companies such as Disney.
He then moved to New York where he received his first publishing contract with Simon & Schuster for his children’s book as illustrator and writer – “What’s under the bed?” “What’s under the bed?” was selected by Cheerios spoonful of stories program. The book was resized and placed in 1.5 million boxes of cheerios in the USA. He’s currently working on another book. Joe has stated his main focus at the present is to create a collection of large drawings for his first exhibition. His recent success in winning the NY region for the Artisan Series has encouraged him to further continue down this path.
